Candice Lake & Peony Lim

Poppy Lim Candice Lake
Candice Lake is one of the world’s best street-style photographers and a former runway model. Her work is regularly featured in Australian and American Vogue. I first met her in February, when I photographed her as part of my first NBC mini-documentary video. In the bright red heels is Peony Lim, one of the chicest personal style bloggers out there. She has an international fanbase and counts many fashion-insiders as readers, and with good reason.

This photo is a perfect example of why I always carry my camera in hand – turned on – when I’m out shooting. Sometimes you have only a split second to catch the shot.

Lono Brazil of Le Sapeurs Row

Lono Amy
There are not enough superlatives in the English dictionary to describe how happy I feel when I look at this photo. I spotted Lono Brazil on Rush Street a few weeks ago and was saving his photo for a Monday post. When I saw him I thought to myself, “this must be how James Bond would dress on the weekend.” Everything about Mr. Brazil’s look is sharp, from his killer sunglasses down to the precisely cuffed jeans. His facial hair should be held up as an example to all young men on how to correctly groom a beard.

Turns out he’s a blogger too. Make sure to check out his Tumblr, Le Sapeurs Row.

On Refinery29: Elise

Elise Amy

It was Elise’s tribal print boots that attracted my eye as she walked towards me down Division Street in Wicker Park. The fabric element of the leather boots reminds me of Pendleton, a brand that has been gaining steam ever since their buzzed-about collaborations with Opening Ceremony burst onto the fashion scene. And who could forget Proenza Schouler’s Fall 2011 collection, an homage to the Native American textiles and blankets designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough collected during their journey through the American Southwest last year. Elise was smart to combine such eye-catchers with an effortless, breezy all-black look. It keeps the focus where it should be, on that fantastic footwear.
