This post is dedicated to my supremely talented art director Christina Vang, whose thoughtful encouragement and creative coaching is challenging me to rethink how I approach the classic squared-up street-style photo format.

A few weeks ago I spotted Maddie on my way to a blowout in the West Loop. I caught her just as she was leaving Mariano’s, which just goes to prove that great street style can happen anywhere!
People often ask me who my style inspirations are. In general I’m inspired by more abstract references to places and times, but Kate Lanphear is one of the few people I can point to who have directly influenced the way I dress.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Kate accepted an offer from Maxim to become the new Editor-in-Chief. Previously, she was most recently Style Director at T: The New York Times Style Magazine.
When I was younger I used to buy Maxim, GQ and Esquire over women’s magazines (except Vogue, duh) because the articles in men’s magazines were hilarious, well-written, and relevant. There’s only so many ways to wear makeup and please your man, OK!? Today, women’s magazines like Gentlewoman have arisen to fill the void. Back when I was a teenager in Arkansas, the pickings were slim and limited to what I could find at the grocery store, so often times it was Maxim I picked up.
I’ll leave you with 2 parting thoughts – Good luck Kate, and thank god for Quimby’s!
