NYFW: Miu Miu x Gorgeous Gams

spotted platform

I know that my readers follow at least a few other street-style blogs in addition to this one. At least I hope you do! Candice Lake and All The Pretty Birds (by Tamu McPherson) are two fabulous street-style blogs run by talented female photographers, so if you don’t follow them already you should start today.

I thought it might be fun to play a guessing game. Can anyone identify whose gorgeous gams these are?

Cathy Horyn: Spring 2012 Trends

September 17, 2011  |  Inspiration, Trends, Video

Cathy Horyn elucidates the three dominant trends from the Spring 2012 collections at New York Fashion Week in this video. Cathy is one of my favorite fashion critics because she takes her role as a journalist seriously. She’s an intellectual who values her role as a scholar of fashion. In today’s era of “editor as stylist” it’s refreshing to see a fashion journalist who can actually write. I anxiously check the New York Times website for her runway show reviews during fashion week, although her articles for the Times during the rest of the year are equally insightful.

True Religion: Candid Outside Milk

Jeans outside Milk
This photo is one of my many candid photos from New York Fashion Week. I have no idea who she is, I just loved her classic American look: white button-down shirt, dark denim jeans (cuffed no less), and black patent leather oxford shoes. Even though this look references the 1950s, it’s wholly modern and quintessentially her, despite the simplicity. This is the essence of true style.

For years I’ve admired candid streetstyle photography and consider it the highest level of the art form. The stakes are obviously much higher because there’s the risk of missing the shot. With posed photography, unless you’re a complete amateur it’s nearly impossible to mess up the photo if you understand the fundamentals of lighting and composition.
