New York Street Style: Blowing in the Wind

Billowing Coat
Here is another amazing candid photo from New York fashion week last September that I haven’t had a chance to publish yet. This photo is a persuasive argument for wearing full-length coats and sticking to a neutral color palette. The fabric dancing in the wind was a spectacular sight.

NYFW Candid: Jena Gambaccini, Lincoln Center

Jena at Lincoln Center
Who else could mix Prada, Opening Ceremony, Miu Miu, and House of Holland to create a quintessentially personal look? I was scanning my archives last night when I came across this fantastic candid photo of my good friend Jena Gambaccini. Here she is wandering through the absolute madness that descends upon Lincoln Center during New York fashion week. Every time I see her she has such great style but, like all other hardcore fashionistas, she brought her “A” game to the “street style olympics.” I took this photograph of Jena on September 12, 2011 in the middle of New York fashion week.

One of my favorite things about Jena’s style is that she is never, ever afraid to experiment with color. She thrives in her brightly-hued ensembles, which is why she is one of my favorite subjects to photograph. As far as Jena is concerned, the more color the better (and preferably neon). The expertise with which she mixes shades from across the rainbow is awe-inspiring, and a testament to her fearless ability to take fashion risks (and she lands them, every time).

In this photo she is wearing the Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony ‘Mary Jane’ platforms; Prada ‘baroque’ sunglasses; dress by House of Holland; and a neon Miu Miu belt. Last but certainly not least, her handbag: would she really be Jena Gambaccini without carrying one Proenza item, in this case her trusty black PS1 satchel?

If you read The Style Tribe (you ought to be), you might also recognize Jena as one of the ‘tribeswomen.’ Click here to view her personal style posts.

Candid on Walton Street

Candid topknot walking
I was standing on Walton Street chatting with my friend Morgan (the blonde one) when I saw this woman approaching us. She was walking fast, but I loved her topknot and Malcolm X glasses. I had my camera ready swung it up and snapped just in time. This woman is so cute with her cuffed pants, coiled red hair, and oxford shoes.

Cable knit sweaters are in for fall (then again, when aren’t they “in”) after being shown on the Alexander Wang and Jil Sander runways. I really love these affordable sweaters by Charlotte Ronson and Madewell (JCrew’s little sister).
