Thais... Metallic Flats

Thais… Metallic Flats

March 26, 2014  |  Streetstyle

Thais is wearing the most delightful silver patent-leather flats. They’re spot on for Spring 2014’s hottest trend – metallics.  From Altuzarra to Proenza Schouler, this season’s strongest collections are shining a spotlight on the reflective material. Even Net-A-Porter’s magazine, The Edit, featured the top 10 metallic pieces on their weekly feature of must-have items, The List. Take a peek at the list, even just for inspiration!

I made it easy for you to get Thais’ look with these great silver metallic shoes. I wore out my Margiela x H&M silver sparkle glitter flats last year. Both shoes have holes in the bottom, so they’re retired. I haven’t chosen a new pair of metallic flats for 2014 yet, but I’m leaning towards the J.Crew pair above. Shiny metallic shoes are just so much fun to wear!

2. BP. pointed flats, $49

3. Luichiny pearlized oxfords, $59

Shannon... Spring is Here!

Shannon… Spring is Here!

March 24, 2014

After the most ferocious winter I’ve ever endured, it’s difficult to articulate just how wonderful it was to hit the streets with my camera this weekend. Imagine how thrilled I was to run into Shannon in Wicker Park! After literally hibernating for months on end, we finally emerged from this dark, brutal winter with spring weather starting to peek through. Transition dressing is here! Shannon’s outfit is the perfect spring look as we begin to blend our winter wardrobe with new pieces from spring collection. Shannon’s soft knits, neutral palette, and tasteful red accents. Plus, I couldn’t stop fawning over the stunning saturated crimson of the Saint Laurent ‘Sac Du Jour’ handbag. It’s simply the pitch perfect look for late March.

After all, last Friday heralded the arrival of spring. Thankfully temperatures rose just high enough for me to hit the streets with my camera this weekend. Four years ago, back when I was a fresh-faced blogger, I went hunting regardless of the weather. Hell, I even went out during snowmaggedon in February 2011. Don’t believe me? These days, if I can’t hold my camera with bare hands I don’t go out. End of story. Between the polar vortexes and arctic blasts, I’m getting too old for this shit.

Today’s Chicago Woman Magazine

A big thanks to the lovely ladies over at Today’s Chicago Woman magazine for featuring me in the March 2014 issue! I was honored to be in such great company alongside the ever fashionable Jena of ChiCityFashion, Nikia from Chitown Fashionista, and Dana Weiss of Possessionista for the ‘Fashionable Four’ story on pages 44-47. The issue is available for free on newstands across the city!

Although these days I’m usually wearing monochromatic outfits in shades of black and gray, I felt like channeling bright red for a spring fashion shoot. How better to celebrate spring than with a top from Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2013 collection? He was inspired by the artist Anish Kapoor, and the top captures the overall collection’s spirit with feather prints, skeletal details, and blood-soaked flowers. It’s spring-meets-macabre in the most fantastic way.

My lipstick red cheerleader skirt from J.W.Anderson was a natural choice with its deeply saturated red and athletic design. It only took me 5 years to hunt down these Balenciaga by Nicholas Ghesquière Spring 2008 gladiator sandals on eBay after first swooning over them in Vogue while I was still in college. If I only could wear one pair of shoes for the rest of my life these would be it, practicality be damned!
