New York Street Style: Vika Gazinskaya

December 20, 2011  |  Designers, Fashion Week, New York, Streetstyle

I crop most of my street style photos quite close to the subject. With this photo of Vika Gazinskaya, a Russian designer who counts Miroslava Duma amongst her supporters, I thought that the background was an unusually compelling element to the shot. I love how it feels like she’s engulfed by trees and concrete yet totally peaceful.

Yesterday I posted a photo of Caroline Trentini rocking a red peplum from an editorial in the January 2012 issue of American Vogue on my Instagram (@ChiStreetStyle). I thought choosing a photo from my archives with a similar look would be a great way to encourage all of you who haven’t followed me on Instagram yet to start today.

Street Style: Ethereal in Black

Ethereal Girl
Despite her knee-high lace-up leather boots and all black clothing there is something very ethereal about Immy’s beauty. Her eyes are this unbelievable icy-blue color and communicate a nearly supernatural depth of spirit. She had a fascinating mix of innocence and toughness in her personality, which made her one of the more extraordinary people I’ve had the chance to photograph on the street. When I say it’s a person’s energy or essence that draws me towards them, this is what I’m talking about.

On Refinery29: Emily Draznik

Emily Draznik has one of the coolest styles in Chicago and it’s always a pleasure running into her. This time I caught her shopping along Michigan Avenue. The design student isn’t afraid to take fashion risks, which is one of my favorite things to see. In this photo she’s wearing an AllSaints leather jacket and a TopShop pleated skirt. The leopard print loafers, red lips and bold glasses are the perfect accents to add a healthy dose of personality into the look.
