Lately I’ve been dealing with a lot of strange energy in my life. More good things are happening than bad, but I still believe in doing what I can to protect myself from negative energy. For example, I am very excited to officially begin my new job at DePaul University next week! And yet, I am also sad that most of my beloved aquarium fish passed away last week from an ich parasite infestation. Tectonic plates seem to be shifting in my life. To shield myself from all of the craziness flowing through my world, I’ve begun wearing my
Hamsa, Lotus, Om Triple Charm Necklace by Satya Jewelry every day.
I purchased this necklace over a year ago during a similarly difficult time. It never fails to amaze me how easily a small accessory, like a dainty little charm necklace, can instantly raise my mood. Or maybe it’s due to the good luck these spiritually powerful charms bring to the wearer! I believe in both the power of positive thinking and spiritual energy, and there is nothing more perfect than to see the two come together in a wearable item. Not only do I feel chic when wearing this necklace, but I also feel centered.
The necklace consists of three 24k gold vermeil charms on a 36 inch gold studded chain. The hamsa is a palm-shaped Arabic amulet believed to provide protection against the evil eye. OM represents the divine consciousness underlying our universe. The lotus symbolizes the unfolding and blossoming of the soul through the process of enlightenment. I wear the necklace long or double wrapped depending on the look I’m going for. Along with the Onyx Lakshmi Prosperity Necklace my brother Will bought for me as a birthday present, this is my favorite piece from one of fashion’s most ethical and spiritually grounded jewelers.
Logik is wearing a red Dr. Seuss t-shirt, premium denim jeans, and a black chain necklace. On his feet are gnarly red and black sneakers. Logik was clearly attentive to his overall aesthetic while creating this look. Everything is harmonized from head-to-toe. When I see a strong personality expressed through sartorial choices, it makes me want to know more about the person. I wonder, what is Logik carrying in his Fred Perry bag?
Dimress gives Rhianna a serious run for her money with her super trendy haircut. Shaved on the sides, tall on the top is a very sexy yet edgy hairstyle currently popular with fashion forward women. She is wearing an oversized Black Panther Party t-shirt, artfully ripped leggings, tassled loafers, and chunky jewelry. If you look closely, you can see that her necklace pendant is a black power fist. Dimress thoughtfully coordinated her entire look around a central theme – black power! I love it when a person, in this case Dimress, uses fashion to create a commentary on a cultural or political issue.
In contrast to his friends, Jabari’s look is down-to-earth and casual. Jabari uses gray classic Nike high-tops and khaki shorts to complement his turquoise plaid shirt. He is wearing Pantone’s Color of the Year 2010, Turquoise, and shows how to use neutrals to enhance the presentation of a single bright color.
Jo is wearing True Religion jeans, an Edie Sedgwick graphic shirt, black lace-up leather boots, and aviator sunglasses. Slung across his body is a canvas messenger bag. He tucked his jeans into his boots, a style not enough men utilize. Jo is also rocking the very popular fade buzz haircut. His look is an enigmatic blend of pop culture, grunge, and military styling.
