Lately I’ve been dealing with a lot of strange energy in my life. More good things are happening than bad, but I still believe in doing what I can to protect myself from negative energy. For example, I am very excited to officially begin my new job at DePaul University next week! And yet, I am also sad that most of my beloved aquarium fish passed away last week from an ich parasite infestation. Tectonic plates seem to be shifting in my life. To shield myself from all of the craziness flowing through my world, I’ve begun wearing my Hamsa, Lotus, Om Triple Charm Necklace by Satya Jewelry every day.

I purchased this necklace over a year ago during a similarly difficult time. It never fails to amaze me how easily a small accessory, like a dainty little charm necklace, can instantly raise my mood. Or maybe it’s due to the good luck these spiritually powerful charms bring to the wearer! I believe in both the power of positive thinking and spiritual energy, and there is nothing more perfect than to see the two come together in a wearable item. Not only do I feel chic when wearing this necklace, but I also feel centered.

The necklace consists of three 24k gold vermeil charms on a 36 inch gold studded chain. The hamsa is a palm-shaped Arabic amulet believed to provide protection against the evil eye. OM represents the divine consciousness underlying our universe. The lotus symbolizes the unfolding and blossoming of the soul through the process of enlightenment. I wear the necklace long or double wrapped depending on the look I’m going for. Along with the Onyx Lakshmi Prosperity Necklace my brother Will bought for me as a birthday present, this is my favorite piece from one of fashion’s most ethical and spiritually grounded jewelers.

Currently Wearing – J.Crew Necklace

I love the jewelry at J.Crew. Quirky yet luxurious, J.Crew’s bold necklaces are a great way to dress up a casual outfit, or add an extra “wow” to a conservative business suit. Their newest jewelry collection is a collaboration with New York-based FENTON/FALLON. The FENTON/FALLON for J.Crew collection perfectly straddles the divide between costume and fine jewelry. These pieces strike the optimum level of lavish, yet understated luxury, using a variety of materials including gold-plated metals and Swarovski crystal stones. As an added bonus, the pieces are affordable ranging in price from $70 to $295.

My favorite piece is the Carrington crystal necklace, pictured below. An opulent Swarovski crystal center piece is framed by gold and copper-plated brass, with an extra-feminine touch – real silk bows.

Goorin Brothers “Malibu” Fedora

Jeremy and I were walking past Akira Men when a snazzy fedora in the window drew my normally boutique-shy fiancĂ© in. I become ecstatic whenever he shows an interest in exploring fashion, however slight. He has worn J.Crew since high school and is most comfortable in casual prep. He does have a soft spot for hats, a passion I am more than happy to indulge. Nothing clinches a man’s outfit together faster than a great fedora. We are both pleased with the accelerating resurgence of hats in American fashion, a trend that hasn’t slowed since it resurfaced in earnest during the 2000s. Akira Men has a wide selection of fedoras, but we went with the Goorin Brothers’ Malibu fedora because the colors of the band perfectly highlight Jeremy’s deep green-blue eyes. Akira Men is one of Chicago’s best male boutiques offering a professionally edited collection at reasonable prices.
