On Refinery29: Katerina

Winter street-style in Chicago is all about layering. It’s not just a fashion statement, it’s necessary for survival. That’s why our city has some of the best winter street-style in the world and why our summer street-style could use some improvement. Chicagoans layer year-round but it’s during the coldest months that you really see our ingenuity at play.

Take a look at what Katerina is wearing. I spotted her walking down Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park. Between the proportion play of her maxidress with her coat and the texture of the fur, this is an excellent example of how to stay stylish (and comfortable) as temperatures plummet.

Street Style: Ethereal in Black

Ethereal Girl
Despite her knee-high lace-up leather boots and all black clothing there is something very ethereal about Immy’s beauty. Her eyes are this unbelievable icy-blue color and communicate a nearly supernatural depth of spirit. She had a fascinating mix of innocence and toughness in her personality, which made her one of the more extraordinary people I’ve had the chance to photograph on the street. When I say it’s a person’s energy or essence that draws me towards them, this is what I’m talking about.

Eric’s Perfect Toggle Coat

Although many of us choose to don puffy coats now that winter is slowly creeping over Chicago, lots of look for ways to maintain our personal style despite the weather. Women have so many more varieties of winter coats to choose from so I thought this would be a great post for my male readers. Eric demonstrates how all you men out there can rock a non-puffy yet warm overcoat during the winter months. I love that the personality that the toggles bring to his look.
