Pitchfork: Yashica D Camera

yashica WM
The more I find myself being absorbed into photography, the more I find myself lusting after weird cameras. Take this Yashica D camera I spotted at Pitchfork. This model was released in 1966 and uses 120 film. Note the “spaghetti western” style font between the two lenses that was popular during the 1960s. The viewfinder is located inside the camera so you have to peer down into the body. I would love to have one of these to just play around with.
The girl who was carrying it told me she bought it on KEH.com, which just so happens to be the place where I purchased my new Canon EOS 1-D camera body.

Zana Bayne on 21 Arrondissement

July 13, 2011  |  Inspiration, Video

Zana Bayne from Le 21ème Arrondissement on Vimeo.

This video is from my friend Adam’s blog, 21 Arrondissement. He recorded this during Zana Bayne’s F/W 2011 presentation at The Standard Hotel. If you don’t follow his work already, you need to start now. Although he first became famous in Seattle he now lives and works in New York City for a little store called Opening Ceremony. In my completely humble opinion, he has the clearest – and strongest – point of view of any street-style photographer. Even more so than the Sartorialist. Regardless of who Adam photographs they all have that “Le 21eme” look. That sort of visual purity is extremely difficult to achieve, but it’s one of the reasons Adam’s blog is adored by the fashion world.
ALSO:
I bought my first Zana Bayne harness a couple weeks ago after lusting after her pieces for almost a full year. Meagan from LATTERSTYLE introduced me to Bayne’s work at the Labrabbit Optics opening party back in September 2010. After months of self-control I finally broke down when I saw her editorial feature in i-D Magazine and splurged on both that belt and the necklace harness.

I began an inspiration Tumblr, Synchronicity, and posted this photo here. I was inspired by Chelsea Lavin’s Tumblr, see lanvin. I’ve been thinking for a while that I need one place to keep all the photos, quotes, and videos that inspire me.
