Remember how I told you I like candids? Well it ruins it when the subject realizes you’re photographing them! I actually love this photo for that exact reason, because it captures that moment of awareness when the subject says, “hey, wait just a minute…”

On Refinery29: Kortnee

Kourtney Full
I ran into Kortnee walking down Rush street towards Barneys for an event. I was actually walking home when I ran into her in between Oak and Bellevue after hanging out with my friends at Sofia. Obviously I could not resist photographing her in those crimson red pants and platform heels. This deep red is most certainly the color of Fall 2011. She told me her earrings are from Drapes, a local jewelry line helmed by Ashley Scott. Like a perfect photography subject, Kortnee was totally game to stand out in the crosswalk (there was a walk sign) so I could capture a great background. I think I succeeded, don’t you?

Robert on Pearson Street

Robert
I captured Robert’s photo the other day on my way to a doctor’s appointment one morning. I had my Olympus PEN with me since I never leave home without a camera. I’ve really been spoiled rotten by my Canon 60D, so it’s difficult to use my PEN now. Robert’s style was too good to walk past when I saw him smoking a cigarette on break outside of Topshop, where he works in the Personal Shopping department.

His vintage Ralph Lauren blazer reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine forces Jerry to buy the Joseph Abboud blazer with the “hand ticking around the crest” so she can date the salesman, who later promises to get her the Nicole Miller dress she has her eye on. Jerry later fails in his attempt to return the jacket “for spite” and Elaine cuts off the salesman’s terrible ponytail after she finds out he lied about the dress. The episode is called the “Wig Master,” you might remember it as the one where Kramer famously (and inadvertently) dresses up like a pimp when Susan’s friend loans him the Technicolor dream coat. It’s a classic, up there with “The Contest” and “The Tape” in my book.
