The Pulse was a monthly television program about fashion on MTV that ran from 1991 to 1995. VJ Marijne van der Vlugt hosted the show, which featured everything from Cindy Crawford filming the iconic Pepsi commercial to John Galliano discussing his latest collection (ironic, I know, given today’s news). This is why the old MTV was a channel worth watching.
Below is a YouTube clip from the episode with Juergen Teller. He discusses his evolution into a fashion photographer and talks about shooting Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, and Courtney Love.
Since this show (sadly) hasn’t existed for over 16 years now, I thought it was apropos to post the final clip from the farewell episode. This is completely gratuitous obviously, and is nothing more than an excuse for me to show more footage from one of the coolest shows MTV ever produced.
I found this video by Yoann Lemoine on the We Are Owls blog. I just purchased one of their scarves, and hope to do a feature post soon. Lemoine is multi-talented artist who sings under the name Woodkid. Check out his MySpace here. He directed this film and performed the music, and he’s only 27. Kind of makes me feel like an underachiever.
And yes, I have a thing for overly dramatic black-and-white videos. Can you tell?

Last week I found this video on one of my favorite publishing house’s websites (Phaidon). I knew I had to post it before the fashion of the Spring 2011 season comes to a close. How incredible is Nobuyoshi Araki?
