Coordinating color socks with an outfit is a great way to spice up an outfit. Vogue’s Style.com has identified this as a burgeoning trend as well, coincidentally posting the “Do’s and Don’ts of Socks With Sandals” on their Style File Blog today (July 14)! This photo was taken a week ago – again, more evidence that many trends are seen on the streets before the fashion editors catch on!
The 90s are back. First came American Apparel, which all but swept their 1980s “hipster neon” off its floors, and is currently redefining itself with its “New Look.” Gawker has pictures of American Apparel’s new dress code, which American Apparel itself defines in internal memos as “Classy-Vintage-Chique-Late 80’s-Early 90’s-Ralph Lauren-Vogue-Nautical-High end brand“[sic]. That’s just a really complicated way to describe CEO Dov Charney’s take on the 90s East Coast preppy look. Now, venerable fashion institutions like Elle Magazine are reinvigorating grunge and floral prints, two of the most important 1990s trends.
Many big style trends are seen on the street long before high fashion designers anoint them to be the next big thing. I guarantee you the woman carrying this backpack purchased it long before any fashion editors declared 90s floral prints to be one of the defining trends of Summer 2010. Her hair is also a deep shade of plum purple. Bright colored hair is another 90s/grunge/Seattle trend I expect to see more of in the next year or two.
