Moncler: "Snowpocalypse" Street Style

The 2010-2011 winter has seen the rise of Moncler puffy coats as the favorite outerwear for Chicago’s well-heeled crowd. These photos of women wearing Moncler coats were taken over the past week, both before and after the “snowpocalypse.” The presence of three foot high piles of snow should help you determine when each photo was taken!

Although I am not particularly a fan of the black puffy coat look on myself (I prefer to wear wool overcoats, even though they’re much heavier), I think it’s important as a streetstyle photographer to document what is actually occurring out on the street. The great thing about streetstyle is that as an artistic form, it’s about celebrating reality and individuals in all their beautiful permutations. It’s not about dictating trends or encouraging people to buy this season’s “it bag,” it’s about revealing fads and sartorial movements as they occur. I had only heard of Moncler coats last winter – and now I see them everywhere!

Snowmaggedon Street Style: Krista

I photographed Krista on Tuesday, February 1st around 2:30 p.m. right as the blizzard approached Chicago. DePaul dismissed all employees early due to the blizzard and the buildings officially closed at 3 p.m. I was on my way home when I spotted Krista looking stylish in spite of the impending “snowpocalypse.” About 15 minutes after I snapped this photo wind gusts of around 50 miles an hour started pummeling me as I got closer to the lake front. The experience was analogous to walking through a frozen hurricane, and the “thundersnow” only reinforced the comparison.

I spotted Sandi and her magnificent crocodile Hermès Birkin entering the Hermès boutique on Rush Street with her husband Bob. After all, where else would she be? Sandi is also wearing Hermès Kelly leather gloves, Hermès bracelets, and Jimmy Choo for Ugg studded boots. She is perfectly dressed for a leisurely walk through the Gold Coast during the harsh Midwestern winter!

Sandi and Bob were in town visiting from Texas. They are a lovely pair and were so generous and patient to let me photograph them. Let’s hope they got home safely before the blizzard struck!
