Photographing other photographers, especially the skilled professionals like Devin David, is always nerve-wracking. Unlike most pros I meet on the streets, I am entirely self-taught. I almost didn’t publish this photo because of the backlighting.
Getting depth down the sidewalk in my shots is an important element of my style even when it causes lighting problems. I want my readers to be able to visualize themselves standing at that same spot in the city. The surrounding environment contextualizes my subjects.
