Personal Style… Junya Watanabe

July 10, 2013  |  Personal Style

Every season there’s a few collections I fall head-over-heels in love with. Past infatuations include Balenciaga Spring 2008Thakoon Fall 2011 and Creatures of the Wind Fall 2012, and I’m proud to say I have a piece from every one. I think of myself like an art collector, only I wear what I own instead of hanging it on my walls. Junya Watanabe Spring 2013 is my most recent obsession. Combining Puma athletic fabrics with sexy, feminine silhouettes is simply brilliant. And this skirt? It goes with practically every top I own, from tees to proper button-down blouses. I paired it with a nude top and Margiela H&M flats for a perfect casual Saturday spent street-style hunting.

Lately I’ve found myself in a dramatic period of growth, personally and professionally. It’s cliche to say “when it rains, it pours,” but there’s truth to that statement. Perhaps it’s only when we’re swirling in the great chaos of the universe that things become clear to us. My style has shifted accordingly, and lately I’ve been purging anything ‘child-like’ from my wardrobe in favor of more elegant, streamlined pieces. Ohne Titel, Maria Cornejo and obviously Junya Watanabe have become my new staples. Nude and blush tones are making their first appearances, although this Eternal Child top has a subtle neon orange trim… Baby steps, ok!
