DIY Denim Shorts: Janelle on Chicago Avenue

DIY Denim Shorts: Janelle on Chicago Avenue

August 21, 2012

I’ll admit, when I first spotted Janelle amongst a sea of people on Chicago Avenue it was the hat. After dashing to catch up with her, I was so excited to see the rest of her look. I love that she used a typically autumn color scheme – plum purple and mossy green – for a sunny day towards the end of August. Chunky vintage jewelry and simple black ankle boots keep Janelle’s outfit grounded. It’s a perfect everyday look; supremely stylish without going overboard.

Plus, how fantastic are Janelle’s DIY shorts? They’re easy to make, and fashionable too.

1. Go thrift a pair of high-waisted denim pants from Village Discount or Goodwill

2. Shorten to the length of your choice. It’s OK to leave the hem raw!

3. Carefully cut a fringe trim along the hem.

Et voila – you’ve added your own personal touch to a custom pair of shorts. How easy was that!
