The Perfect Las Vegas Runway Outfits

March 21, 2012  |  Corporate Collaborations, Feature

Lately I’ve been thinking about the idea of escape. What does it mean to escape? Is it simply disappearing from everyday life for a few hours, or is escaping a state of mind? The fact is that everyone needs to escape at one point or another. Life is meant to be lived! That’s where Escape to Total Rewards comes into play. Now you can earn points by dining at Bobby Flay’s restaurants or by shopping at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and redeem them for cool stuff.

Although I went to Las Vegas when I was 12 years old, I would like to go back now as a real adult (um, not a fake adult?!). You know what I mean! So I thought why not put together my dream Las Vegas outfit, for when I have my chance to escape into a fantasy alternate universe where buying a Balmain jacket right off the runway isn’t the sartorial equivalent of pigs flying.

Click below to see the three runway looks I’d love to wear during a trip to Las Vegas!

For night one of my imaginary escape I imagine wearing this Balmain look, the first one to walk down the runway during the Fall 2012 presentation. I love taking things overboard (duh) so I went for the full-on Caesars Palace vibe with Olivier Rousteing’s riff on the King himself, Elvis Presley.

For night two I imagined what it’d be like to stay at Circus Circus, so naturally Meadham Kirchhoff Fall 2012 is in order. What, you don’t see the connection between the two? Look harder! I have a new found love for babydoll dresses, a silhouette I previously hated as being simplistic and overly dated. But during the Fall 2012 collections they sprung up everywhere, including at the reigning queen of fiercely constructed stiff garments, Mary Katrantzou. If she’s going for this look, I guess I can too… Plus who doesn’t love a subtle Batmobile reference?

And last but not least, I’d offer a final outfit homage to the soon-to-be demolished Imperial Palace, one of the great vintage hotels on the Las Vegas strip. The charmingly dated property is being demolished to make way for a new hotel and casino complex. Jason Wu’s Fall 2012 collection, which was inspired by a recent trip to his homeland of Taiwan and China, would be the literal perfect fit. The marriage of Jason Wu FW 2012’s references to the kitschy and often incorrect portrayals of Asian-Americans in Hollywood cinema circa the 1930s seems apropos. As a society, we move forwards and anachronistic things and concepts must be cleared to make way for new. Yet are we losing something in this dash towards the future?

  1. Well doll, you’ve posted a sign from “old” Las Vegas, if you haven’t been there since it has become “new” Las Vegas – what a surprise you are in for! Love the outfits – I’ll be re-posting those on CafeMom.
