Chicago Street Style: Tiara in Rodarte

Chicago Street Style: Tiara in Rodarte

March 6, 2012

Everything about Tiara is perfect. When I stopped her on the street in the Loop I instantly wanted to become her friend. Any girl who wears a Rodarte with a septum piercing is the absolute epitome of cool. Street-style literally doesn’t get any sweeter than this, and I’ll tell you why. Sure, it’s amazing to see editor after editor prancing around the Tuileries in not-yet-for-sale designer clothing from a visual perspective. But from a conceptual point of view, that shit is kind of boring. Um, of course fashion magazine editors look phenomenal during fashion week. Know what I think is way cooler? Being a college student who scrimps and saves and heartwrenchingly waits months for the dream designer item to go on sale, or even has to forgo it and wait years for the items to pop up on eBay (finally got that Meadham Kirchhoff for Topshop destroyed sequin dress I adored, and for less than a third of its U.K. sticker price. Yes!).

I’m not just saying all of this because it’s the summary of my life for the past 8 years (18-26). Oh wait, yes I am. I totally lied.

P.S. Tiara wore the greatest shoes ever with this outfit, click over to see her full-length photo on Refinery29. Seriously, does it get any better than a 90s grunge-inspired look anchored by Rodarte, complete with a flannel shirt and Dr. Martens?

There’s something very ‘Alexander Wang’ about Laura’s look, but I can’t quite put my finger on it…

New York Street Style: Velocity

New York Street Style: Velocity

There are so many things I love about this photo. Firstly, it’s a candid. If any of you recognize her, please leave her name and/or blog in the comments so I can add it to the post. Secondly, it’s the pops of pink on the Cambridge satchel and her pink lips. And last but certainly not least, the lines in this photo are simply phenomenal. Look at the folds on her dress, the individual tufts of fur, and the way her hair is streaming in the wind. I named this photo Velocity because visually it captures the spirit of always moving forward, something all of us should keep in mind. Don’t ever get stuck in the past, because the best things in life are always ahead of us.
