Dove's Great Style Effect

Dove’s Great Style Effect

December 16, 2012  |  Corporate Collaborations

I photographed 25 Chicago women for Dove’s new Facebook app The Great Style Effect, where you can learn how to get the stylish looks worn by girls on the street using Dove products. I loved working on this project because most imagery used by beauty companies promotes unrealistic body standards for women, which damages self-esteem. Obviously I’m biased in favor of street-style, but I truly think that fashion should use ‘real’ people (a.k.a. non-models) as often as possible. Why do you think blogs are so popular? If anything, we bridge the aspirational fantasy of style and beauty with the authenticity of real people. Go Dove!

Ok, so Stephanie isn’t wearing a Burberry trenchcoat, but they were right when they said I’d be noticing trenches for the rest of my life…

Incidentally, the day I photographed Stephanie happened to be her birthday and she was on vacation in Chicago. What are the chances?
