I often hear from people on Twitter, through emails, or in person, how much they want to be spotted by a street-style photographer. I always tell them that if they dress well and have good luck, sooner or later they’ll be spotted. Frankie is one of those people. Last summer he saw me out style hunting and tweeted at me that I hadn’t spotted him. I never know what to say because I don’t want people to feel like it’s a reflection on them if I don’t spot them. I feel bad when people get upset if I don’t photograph them, but I don’t know what else to say except that this is just a blog, and it’s run by one person, and there are a plethora of different factors that influence not only who gets spotted, but whether (and when) the photos are eventually posted. I want to emphasize that I am not some “fashion judge.” I’m just a photographer who likes to take pictures of things that I find interesting.

Suffice it say, I had no idea what Frankie looked like and I finally photographed him last weekend on Oak Street. See, it does happen! It might have taken a year since Frankie first started following my blog, but eventually I randomly spotted him! So please, please don’t feel bad if you see me out and I don’t stop you, because there’s always next time!

After six weeks of waiting, my marvelous psychedelic oxfords from the Creatures of the Wind x J.Crew collaboration finally arrived on Tuesday! I’ve been wearing them non-stop, including to the event I hosted with StyleCaster at Teddie Kossof Salon. Heels are overrated, especially in 2012, and every cool girl needs a wild pair of flats. Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory from 1971 meets Kramer’s pimp coat inside one outrageous pair of brogues. I get so many compliments on them from strangers – everyone from businessmen in suits to construction workers and baristas are entranced by these sweet kicks. Literally, how could you not comment on them? Chicagoans are so friendly and optimistic, and as a city we love great design, so it makes sense that the everyday people (who typically don’t care about fashion per se) are amused by my footwear. You know why? Because they’re happy shoes.
