Amanda Outside Hermes

Amanda
Amanda is a great example of how young fashion forward women are dressing casually these days. A loose, soft knit top over tight colored Rag & Bone jeans and a cool pair of sneakers… oh wait a second, she’s wearing my day-to-day uniform! For 2011 this has been the dominant silhouette for young twenty-something women looking to keep things ultra-casual but still cutting-edge. It’ll be interesting to see how the lines shift over the next few seasons.

Tim & Jess, Denim Chambray Shirts

Tim

Jess

Denim chambray shirts were uber-popular at New York fashion week (see here and here for women’s looks). Although let’s be honest here, this is another one of those iconic pieces editors and brands love to present as the must have item for the season. But along with loafer heels and blazers, the denim chambray shirt never goes out of style. Sure the cuts and lines shift as years change, but a well-made denim shirt that fits you well is always worth investing in, regardless of the diktats of the fashion mags. It’s not just a throwaway trend piece to pick up at Always18 etc. Unless you’re looking for one missing the pocket, in which case you can pick up Tim’s shirt at TopShop where he works. That store is full fantastically trendy clothing, that’s why it exists, and they’re great at what they do. Everyone needs to update their wardrobe with trendy pieces each season, and Topshop is a great place to go.

Morgan at Rush & Walton

Morgan
Morgan is a supremely talented fashion design student at SAIC. Although she originally hails from Los Angeles, she has since warmed up to life in Chicago. Morgan was actually the first person who connected the dots between weather and street-style during a snowy conversation on the street last winter. We discussed how Chicagoans and New Yorkers are all about layering year round, whereas Los Angeles retains a completely different aesthetic, something only a transplanted Los Angeleno would notice. I wholeheartedly agree, because everyday (non-fashion editor/model) New York street-style and Chicago street-style are quite similar (check out Mr. Newton’s site for gorgeous pics of regular girls for proof), and if you then visit my friend Eva’s blog HiStyley you’ll see just how dramatically the aesthetic shifts with LA street style.

Morgan is also one of the first people I ever photographed back when I had my little Canon Powershot SD. To see how far my skills have come, click here. I’d be embarrassed by the quality of my old photos if I wasn’t proud of how far I’ve come.
