Derek Smith of Pretty Lights

Amy and Pretty Lights
Derek Smith of Pretty Lights is my absolute favorite musician and has been for well over a year. Frazier knows that I ONLY drive to Pretty Lights and automatically dials it into the car iPod when I take the wheel. On the way home from Grand Rapids last weekend we listened to Making up a Changing Mind twice and my all-time favorite album, Filling Up the City Skies. Derek is not only the coolest guy on the planet but he’s also incredibly friendly. Hanging out with him and his friend Samantha backstage today was a dream come true!

DJ Thibault & Wendy

DJ_Thibault_Wendy
I ran into DJ Thibault and his sister Wendy before Orchard Lounge took the stage. DJ Thibault is already Austin’s leading DJ and it looks as though he’s taking over the rest of the country as well! Tomorrow, he will be performing a half hour set at 6 p.m. in addition to joining the Omega Moos for a late night set at Metro.

Wes

Wes

Wes is rocking the grassroots trend to wear sneakers without laces. This trend actually led one fashionista into a run-in with homeland security police on the CTA Redline. According to ChicagoNow, the police identified the man as a “security risk” because recently released prisoners often wear shoes without shoelaces, which are classified as a dangerous tool by jails and prisons. Chicago police detective Andre Watkins discussed the new style, saying in the article that the suspect “brought a fashion trend to my attention.” No need to worry about Wes, he was on his way to Lollapalooza and performs with a local band.
