While I was in New York for fashion week, NBC filmed a mini-documentary about me and street style. I am really honored to be featured in this project. Special thanks to Marcus Riley and John P. Wise. You guys rock!
Before the Face Hunter or The Sartorialist, there was FRUiTS. This is the book that initially sparked my now decade long obsession with street style. I stumbled upon this book in the culture section at the Hastings bookstore in Fayetteville, Arkansas, when I was fourteen years old. The photographs of outrageously dressed Japanese teenagers instantly resonated with me, as it reminded me of the people I used to live around in Greenwich Village when my mom was a professor at New York University.
Although I resented my parents for years (…like a whole decade) for moving us out of Manhattan so my dad could fulfill his dream of owning a cattle ranch, living in the middle of nowhere did teach me how to daydream. I became really involved with art, which I pursued all throughout high school. Had I not lived in such a boring environment the visual arts might not have become such an important vehicle of self-expression for me, and I might never have started this website!
You can purchase FRUiTS on Amazon.com.
My work is being featured in the Chicago street style gallery show curated by Isa Giallorenzo of Chicago Looks. Twenty-four of my photos were selected to be included in the show, including Chelsey Carter, Jena Gambaccini, Leah Babette, along with many more!
