Archive for August, 2014
After deciding to make the jump from fashion blogger to copywriter a few years ago, I’ve been singularly focused on solidifying my career. Socializing (and fun in general) was abandoned in favor of late nights & hard work for the past 2 years, with just a couple breaks over Christmas. Just like everyone else I had to prove myself. Advertising is a tough business to break into, especially as a creative.
This past weekend I finally took a long overdue staycation to relax and spend time with my younger brother, who made the 3-hour trek in from Wisconsin to visit. The W Lakeshore was kind enough to invite us to stay in a luxury suite, so we could enjoy the fashionable luxury of their brand-new $40 million renovation.
I live-blogged my experience on twitter and Instagram, where you can follow me at @chistreetstyle. We made the most of my ‘staycation’ with a visit to the Museum of Science & Industry, a long-overdue ride on the Chicago Architecture Foundation boat tour, and – of course – a visit to Giordano’s for Chicago-style pizza. We went full tourist, and it was a blast!
As the only hotel in Chicago on Lake Michigan, the W Lakeshore is nestled close to downtown but with the tranquility of lakefront views. This was exactly what I needed to recharge before fashion week next month. Thank you W Hotels for such a wonderful weekend!
Styling a psychedelic sweater with a simple chain and classic shades equals pure fashion gold. I could go on and on, but I’ll just stop by saying there’s not enough adjectives in the sartorial dictionary to describe how much I love her look.
This is how you rock fringe. Commit to it fully (preferably with vintage), while embracing all the style connotations it brings to a look. She nails it by turning convention on its head, styling Western fringe with a modern teal skirt.

Spring/Summer 2014 was all about the fringe. From Rodarte to Altuzarra and of course, Junya Watanabe, designers were clearly inspired by the tricky technique. I’ve always shied away from fringe, but lately it’s been impossible to walk down Michigan Avenue without seeing it merchandised in all the windows. Designs trickle down from the runway to the masses, and this season fringe flooded the sidewalks like never before.

What about you – are you wearing fringe this year?
