Sometimes the best accessories are the natural ones, like a pair of yellow leather work gloves tucked into a green wool coat on a snowy day in Chicago…

‘Illusion’ was the inspiration for my outfit last Saturday street-style hunting around Chicago. When I picked out this J.W. Anderson x Topshop tee I did so knowing full well that I’d be rocking it with my Margiela H&M hair necklace. I love how together they bring a 3-D quality to my look. If you couldn’t tell it was the back of someone’s head, the hair necklace provides a crucial clue. There’s a creepiness that I simply couldn’t resist exploring.

As I was walking down Damen Avenue, a man standing in front of David’s Tea offering samples took one look at me and said “Girl, you’ve got swag!” He was so enthusiastic about my sneakers and my leather-sleeved coat, which I had cinched shut with the clear Margiela H&M plastic belt. I always take these experiences as evidence that Chicagoans love fashion and design as much as any other global city, but it also makes me happy for the rest of the day. Seriously – who doesn’t love it when someone stops you on the street and recognizes the thought you put into constructing your outfit? Oh hello, street-style photography…..

Chicago… Wicker Park: Javier & Maggie

Usually I walk past most couples on the street. It’s rare when both people catch my eye, as did Javier & Maggie. It’s too awkward to shoot couples individually and then post only one of the shots, so these days I’ll only shoot them together if I like both the outfits.

This photograph was taken right before the snow fell Saturday afternoon. I liked that neither of them were wearing puffy coats. Despite falling temperatures, it’s still possible to look stylish as both prove above. Plus, I loved the obvious infatuation they have with each other that came through in this unplanned moment in between poses. I thought it was a lovely image and captures them so well, much better than the posed shots. If only all of us were this much in love…
