Chicago Street Style: Sydney and her Panthers

Chicago Street Style: Sydney and her Panthers

February 3, 2012

I spotted Sydney walking down Rush Street as I was hurrying towards the Red Line stop on Chicago Avenue. I was on my way to run a couple errands in the Loop (a.k.a. visiting a pair of shoes at Brooks) after a successful day of street-style hunting. I was elated to see such a gorgeous woman on the sidewalk, particularly since I have photographed so many stylish men lately. I knew the falling sunlight combined with the blood red skirt and her natural beauty would make for a phenomenal image.

The best pictures often happen at the end of a hunt just as I’ve mentally checked out of street-style mode. I suppose it’s the universe’s way of playing tricks on me. Throwing a bird-of-paradise like Sydney into my street-style photographer lap feels like a gift from the gods. Especially since it was pure luck that she was out walking around on break from Intermix at the exact moment I walked by. Synchronicity much?

Sydney is wearing an AllSaints sweater under a 12th Street by Cynthia Vincent Nordic cardigan. The skirt is by Mason and is from Intermix.

Oh, and the panther head earrings? Yeah, they’re vintage Cartier.

VIDEO: 3.1 Phillip Lim “Girls on Bikes”

Film by 3.1 Phillip Lim

All this unseasonably warm weather makes me want to break my classic Schwinn bicycle out of winter storage for a ride down the Lake Shore Drive bike path along Lake Michigan’s beach… Have any of you taken your bikes for a spin during this strangely warm weather?

I thought this romantic film featuring women zooming around San Francisco donning 3.1 Phillip Lim clothing. How incredible is that shift dress with the spiky sleeves? Or the sumptuous green on that windbreaker coat. I’ve been wearing designer Phillip Lim’s pieces for years when I first discovered him in college through what else, fashion blogs! They’re well designed, at an accessible price-point for luxury clothing, and skew young. Not hard to see why he’s so popular with famous bloggers like Rumi Neely and Elin Kling, women who regularly wear his pieces.

Waiting to Cross at Oak & Rush

Waiting to Cross at Oak & Rush

Sometimes when I’m out walking around street-style hunting I’ll see a photo opportunity that is perfect as a candid. This woman was so strikingly beautiful that I couldn’t resist photographing her as she waited to cross the street. Yet, like a bird watcher, I didn’t want to disturb her and ruin the image. If you know this woman please send her a link to this photo. I’m sure she’d love to see it.
