Isabella had that magnetic allure that I find so charming in my street-style subjects. Even better, I spotted her on Chicago Avenue just after I ascended the escalator. It’s rare for me to just “fall off” the bus or the El and onto street-style gold, so spotted Isabella was a wonderful way to kick off a warm summer day of street-style hunting.

Perfect bun hair style

A bun can be a difficult hair style to pull off. It’s severe, as it concentrates all of the attention on the wearer’s face. Conversely, Carine Roitfeld famously styles her hair in front of her face to obscure it, which is crazy since she’s beautiful. We all have insecurities, even the most gorgeous and glamorous women in fashion apparently. Young girls seem to prefer the topknot, which is really just the modern incarnation of the ballerina bun. Topknots can also be difficult to wear. In this photograph, the blonde highlights draw the eye upward towards the bun allowing her angular cheekbones to make a powerful fashion statement. The bun is not for timid women, but when done properly (like here) has a simple hairstyle ever looked so chic?

I think everyone has their own personal “perfect” hairstyle, a result of the complicated interplay between genetics, make-up preferences, and facial shape. If two of fashion’s most powerful editors, Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld, have discovered their ideal haircuts, then what’s keeping you? I know I’ve taken risks with cutting my hair into new styles but I always found myself returning to the same look, shoulder length hair with long side-swept bangs.

What about you, have you discovered your “perfect” hairstyle yet?
