Marina Larroude is the senior market editor for Style.com and is world-renowned for her magical ability to look chic in everything from pajama tops to Mary Katrantzou skirts. Ok, so maybe the last one isn’t that hard… although I do love how subtle her Repossi rings are in the image above. Who else but Marina could make grayscale look so chic?
Tara superbly demonstrates the correct way to boldly mix prints. Stylish Chicagoans are very skilled at print-mixing in general, but Tara takes it to the next level. Your best bet is to either use similar prints – for example, two paisley prints in similar shades but of varying sizes – or vastly different prints. Here, she shows us how linear stripes work well against an oversized print. Notice how the stripes are on the bottom, and the vertical direction elongates her shape creating the illusion of a taller, thinner figure. Who knew print-mixing was not only fashionable, but also the domain of optical illusions?
I ran into Kelsey a couple weeks ago on Chicago Ave in the Gold Coast… hard to believe it was this cold considering how warm it is in the city now. She is the founder of New York-based leggings company Mash NY, a line that NYLON did an entire feature on a while back. Click here to check out her designs.
